Warren Worthington III, also known as Archangel, is a Marvel Comics character who first appeared in X-Men #1 (1963).
Born with feathered wings, Worthington was one of the original members of the X-Men. He possessed the mutant ability of flight and initially went by the codename Angel.
During a period of great personal turmoil, Angel underwent a transformation orchestrated by Apocalypse. His organic wings were severed and replaced with metallic wings, granting him new offensive capabilities and a darker persona. He was then known as Death, one of Apocalypse's Horsemen.
Eventually, Worthington broke free from Apocalypse's control, but retained his metallic wings and more aggressive tendencies. He subsequently returned to the X-Men, embracing the name Archangel.
